Davion Mitchell isn’t going anywhere.

Days before he was expected to enter restricted free agency for the first time in his career, the Miami Heat re-signed Mitchell to a two-year, $24 million deal, ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania first reported Saturday.

The Heat extended the qualifying offer to the former No. 9 overall pick earlier this week, worth roughly $8.7 million. I predicted that Mitchell would land anywhere between $10-12 million, so a two-year deal with a $12 million AAV is a reasonable contract for both sides.

Mitchell, 26, was one of the Heat’s best players since he was acquired from the Toronto Raptors ahead of the trade deadline in the Jimmy Butler blockbuster.

In 30 games, he averaged 10.3 points, 5.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game, shooting 50.4 percent from the floor, 44.7 percent from 3-point range and 70.2 percent from the free-throw line. He was one of their best playoff performers too, despite the team being mercifully swept in the first round to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

He was one of, if not the Heat’s best point-of-attack defenders, a very efficient 3-point shooter and showcased improved playmaking down the stretch of last season. It was imperative to bring him back because of his point-of-attack defense alone, but he was the quintessential embodiment of how the organization’s built its foundation on toughness, grittiness and heart.

Miami now has four point guards on its roster, including newly-drafted Kasparas Jakucionis and Dru Smith, who the Heat extended a two-way qualifying offer to. What moves do you want the Heat to make once free agency arrives?! Let us know in the comments!
