Marquette’s O-Max Prosper, Tyler Kolek and Oso Ighodaro helped Kam Jones
Marquette has boasted several NBA prospects in recent seasons in Olivier-Maxence Prosper, Oso Ighodaro and Tyler Kolek.
The Indiana Pacers traded to acquire Marquette star Kam Jones No. 38 in the 2025 NBA draft on June 26 from the San Antonio Spurs.
After the senior earned consensus second-team All-American honors for his performance this past season, it seemed as though it was only a matter of time regarding when Jones would be selected in the NBA draft.
ESPN draft analyst Jonathan Givony assessed Jones as a prospect, calling him one of the best pick-and-roll creators in the country despite playing off-ball as a junior.
“His decisiveness as a passer and scorer stood out, but his streaky shooting from beyond the arc and middling defensive impact give him some areas to work on as he looks to demonstrate that his game translates to higher levels of competition,” Givony wrote.
In each of Jones’ four seasons suiting up for the Golden Eagles, he increased his scoring average.
During Jones’ senior season, he averaged 19.2 points per game while shooting 48.3% from the field. However, his 31.1% efficiency from three-point range in his final season was far below the 38.3% he’d converted on his first three seasons at Marquette.
Here’s how social media reacted to Jones being chosen in round two.
Excited to watch Kam Jones at Summer League. The Pacers rarely play without multiple ball-handlers on the floor, which becomes more important w/o Haliburton (obviously), but also to maintain Nembhard’s effectiveness on defense.

Kam Jones is heading to the Pacers as part of a trade
This is a really good pick up for Indy. With Haliburton out he’ll probably contribute right away https://t.co/yFqvjiITJ5

Kam Jones to the Pacers! The Major feels very, very sure that no one from the Jones family will get in Giannis’ face if they happen to beat the Bucks.
Congrats to Kam!

Huge night for former ECS star Kam Jones as the Marquette star was just taken 38th overall, the 8th pick in the second round. The pick was made by the Spurs but Jones will be heading to the Pacers.

I don’t like Kam Jones going to the Pacers. That helps them.

Kam Jones is an awesome pick for this pacers squad

#38. Pacers = A-
Kam Jones to Indiana is a fire pick, this is a winning/impact player. He’ll 100% make his way into the Pacers’ rotation as a strong complementary player. One of the better rim drivers in recent memory that also brings outlier playmaking + shooting upside. W pick

Damn, I hate that Kam Jones is going to the Pacers, he’s a beast, should’ve been a first round pick
— Jason M (@jmere09nyc) June 27, 2025
Kam Jones seems like a good fit for the Pacers. He can handle the ball and play off the ball. He’s a bit streaky as a shooter and isn’t a standout defender, but if Kevin Pritchard picks him I’m sure it’ll work out

Kam Jones A: It’s the pacers they just get these dudes who can play bra. He boosted his playmaking this past year. His AST% boosted to 38.1 from 16.7. Just a crazy leap, he fits what the pacers do and obviously you just saw them make it to game 7 of the finals with high feel… pic.twitter.com/uhvqy5xQGZ

Really?! C’mon man.
The Pacers really sniped a Kam Jones that’s going to be tough to stomach Kam killing it with those folks man 😂.
Regardless?: Indiana targeting Kam Jones as that insurance-lead as they move forward without Tyrese Haliburton is a phenomenal! talent-decision.

Marquette has had at least one player drafted in the last three years.
Kam Jones heads to the Indiana Pacers with the 38th overall pick
