Kansas basketball coach Bill Self talks new assistant Jacque Vaughn

Check out everything Kansas basketball coach Bill Self had to say Tuesday as he introduced a new assistant, Jacque Vaughn, in Lawrence.

LAWRENCE — Kansas basketball is sending multiple players to professional opportunities following the 2025 NBA Draft.

While no Jayhawks were selected, it looks like three of them have reached undrafted agreements with different organizations. That includes Hunter Dickinson (New Orleans Pelicans), Dajuan Harris Jr. (Charlotte Hornets) and Zeke Mayo (Washington Wizards). All three were regular starters and key contributors for KU this past season, with Harris’ experience with the team dating back to its national championship in 2022.

But while Kansas didn’t enjoy a year with any draft picks, 2026 is trending to look much different. KU has a player in freshman guard Darryn Peterson who has the potential to be the No. 1 overall selection. It also has a returning sophomore forward, Flory Bidunga, who could play himself into being a draft pick as well.

Here’s more:

Darryn Peterson — No. 1 overallFlory Bidunga — No. 56 overall

ESPN’s mock draft went through the first 10 selections, and included Peterson as the projected No. 1 overall selection. Bidunga, mentioned with the following prospects on the big board, came in at No. 56 overall. Both are poised to lead Kansas forward during the 2025-26 season.

SB Nation’s big board went through the top 30 prospects, and included both Peterson and Bidunga. While Peterson isn’t the projected No. 1 pick here, both he and Bidunga are seen as potential first round selections. Should they live up to that potential, Kansas would be in an advantageous position to compete in the Big 12 Conference.

USA TODAY Sports’ mock draft stuck with the first round, and only included Peterson. Once again, he was seen as the No. 2 overall player. It doesn’t mean Bidunga won’t be a first round pick, but it seems clear the two Jayhawks will be battling for two different things — Peterson the No. 1 overall selection, and Bidunga the chance to be a first round pick.
