@MikeAScotto does mention that the Nets hope to re-sign Ziaire Williams and Day’Ron Sharpe in free-agency. Brooklyn leads the NBA in cap space this summer, but how much they will have depends on how much Cam Thomas demands in restricted free-agency. https://t.co/9PF0qAwwI1

The Brooklyn Nets have had to make some interesting decisions this offseason with which rookies they took in the 2025 NBA Draft along with what they will have to do in free-agency. Brooklyn has already made moves like waiving forward Maxwell Lewis and extending a qualifying offer to Cam Thomas, but the Nets have shown that they are far done building the roster.

HoopsHype NBA insider Michael Scotto reported on Sunday that while Brooklyn extended to Thomas his $5.99 million qualifying offer, they declined to extend qualifying offers to forward Ziaire Williams ($8.35 million) or center Day’Ron Sharpe ($5.98 million). As a result, Thomas officially becomes a restricted free-agent while Williams and Sharpe are unrestricted from this point on and are free to sign with any team.

Williams, 23, is coming off his best season in his four-year career after being the 10th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft out of Stanford by the Memphis Grizzlies. Williams, who came to the Nets last offseason as the result of a trade that sent Nemanja Dangubic and Mamadi Diakite to the Grizzlies in exchange for Williams and a 2030 second-round pick, averaged 10.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 41.2% from the field and 34.1% from three-point land.

Sharpe, 23, showed plenty of growth in his fourth season in the NBA after being taken with the 29th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft out of North Carolina. Sharpe, while spending most of his time as the backup to center Nic Claxton, averaged 7.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game while shooting 52.1% from the floor and 24.4% from behind the three-point line.

Scotto noted in his posts regarding the Nets’ moves on Sunday that the team hopes to bring Williams and Sharpe back to Brooklyn, but likely at an amount that the Nets would be comfortable doing moving forward. Prior to the beginning of the 2025 NBA offseason, Spotrac’s Keith Smith projected Williams to command the veteran’s minimum in free-agency while projecting Sharpe to earn a 3-year, $30 million deal.
