Friday on ESPN’s First Take, host Molly Qerim and analysts Brian Windhorst, Tim MacHahon, and former Spurs sharpshooter Danny Green discussed the winners and losers of the 2025 NBA Draft.

Windhorst believes the Spurs were winners in the draft, highlighting their selection of Dylan Harper with the second pick and nabbing Carter Bryant at fourteen.

He shared that the Spurs are in great position as they rebuild, stating,

“I’ll tell you what, I like what the Spurs were able to do because they get Dylan Harper. A lot of executives feel this was a two-player draft. In other words, there were two impact players in this draft, so you wanted to have with the first or second pick. The Spurs were able to get that pick. Then they were able to get a potentially impact wing player later on in the first round. And they are in really good shape to make another deal going forward if they see a star player. Look, they have really set themselves up for growth because they’re going to haver quality players on rookie contracts.”

Once again, the Spurs office has impressed pundits and fans alike. But in truth, even Spurs GM Brian Wright admitted there was an element of luck in landing Bryant as he was expected to go earlier, and they were ready to make a move to ensure he was donning the Silver & Black. Not to mention the general “luck” of a lottery ball drop.

Great scouting, layered planning, and a some good fortune.

2025-2026 is going to be a great season for the Spurs.
