ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) – The high school basketball season is still months away, but the Bolton Bears are one of many Cenla teams putting in hard work during the summer months.
“Our summer has been absolutely fantastic,” Bolton head coach Mike Jonker said. “It’s been all about growth, what we’re finding is experience is a great teacher.”
Jonker will be spending his first season with the Bears and his first season ever as a varsity basketball coach, coming over from Forest Hill.
“He’s really expressed having a good attitude, and if you make a mistake, just make the next play, and it has really helped us keep playing,” Bolton seventh grader Owen Foreman said.
The Bears are coming off a 3-25 record from a season ago, but have been spending the summer months working on building a culture, as well as a competitive basketball team.
“I feel like we’re starting to trust each other a little bit more,” Bolton eighth grader Londen Mason said. “We’ve seen a bunch of improvement from especially last year and the beginning of summer.”
