KUTV — Since March, the Utah community and fans across the country have been rallying in support of Jon Absey—the beloved “Original” Utah Jazz Bear—who is currently fighting a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer.

Rick Lindsey, CEO of XInsurance, and Johnny Riche, owner & vice president of development for Rockwell Time, spoke to Kari Hawker-Diaz about how you can help.

For more than 25 years, Absey brought joy, laughter, and inspiration as the iconic Jazz Bear.

Beyond the court, his impact was even greater. He made over 9,000 appearances on behalf of more than 300 charitable organizations, visiting hospitals, schools, military bases, and first responder stations. His legacy extends far beyond sports; he has been a symbol of hope, kindness, and dedication throughout Utah and beyond.

A proud U.S. Army veteran who served in Operation Desert Storm, Absey has always put others first. Now, it’s our turn to show up for him. As his medical expenses grow—many of which are not fully covered by insurance—friends, family, and supporters are inviting those whose lives he has touched to join “Absey’s Army.”

Every dollar counts. Even a small donation can make a meaningful difference. Supporters are encouraged not only to give but to share his story and inspire others to contribute as well.
