The Boston Celtics were upset 108-105 in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the New York Knicks in the TD Garden. The overtime thriller came after a blown 20-point third-quarter lead by the Celtics, who missed a playoff record 45 three-point field goals in the contest (via StatMuse).

All-Stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown led the way for the Celtics by supplying 23 points each and combining for 23 rebounds, however, they also shot a combined 5-for-25 from the three-point line.

Neither player was able to return to the game, so the empty injury report was short-lived, and the Celtics must wait until Game 3 for it to potentially be empty again. Head coach Joe Mazzulla was able to give an update on the availability of both Hauser and Porzingis the next morning.

“Joe Mazzulla said Kristaps Porzingis and Sam Hauser are both day to day,” said Jay King of The Athletic via X. “[Mazzulla] said Porzingis felt a little better today.”

Durability has been a problem for the Celtics regularly this season, and it could be the X factor moving forward if they want to be the first team to repeat as NBA champions since the Golden State Warriors in 2017-18. Game 2 of the series will be at 7 PM EST on Wednesday night in Boston, where the Celtics will try to even the series up 1-1 going into Madison Square Garden in New York City.
