The Toronto Raptors and Australian big man Jakob Poeltl have reportedly signed a four-year contract extension worth $104 million. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Poeltl will pick up his $19.5 million player option for 2026-27. He will have three more years added to his contract. Poeltl once again became a part of the Raptors ever since his trade from the San Antonio Spurs midway during the 2022-23 season.

He signed a four-year $80 million deal in the following offseason to remain with the Raptors. Notably, the Austrian is coming off his best career season with an average of 14.5 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 2.8 assists. Drafted by the Raptors in the 2016 NBA Draft with the ninth overall pick, he became the first Austrian to get selected in the NBA.

Notably, the 29-year-old has been a valuable center, who displays skills on both the ends. He doesn’t shoot efficiently from distance or the free-throw line. However, Poeltl can be called an efficient scorer, rebounder, playmaker and defender in the post. He has played a total of 595 games and has a career average of 8.9 rebounds, 7.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 341 starts.

Raptors Didn’t Want to Involve Jakob Poeltl in Kevin Durant Trade- Report

As the Raptors signed a $104 million contract extension with Jakob Poeltl, they have made it clear how much they value him. As stated, the 29-year-old is coming off his best season, and is entering his prime. According to a report by Jake Fischer, the Raptors were clear of not getting Poeltl involved in any trade regarding former Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant. Even while Toronto was in pursuit of the two-time NBA Champion, the team didn’t want to let go of Poeltl.

Fischer wrote on X, “Toronto didn’t want to include Jakob Poeltl in any trade for Kevin Durant. They wanted to give that a man a bag.” In the end, Durant went to the Houston Rockets in a deal which involved Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, and the No. 10 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, Khaman Maluach.
