Sometimes, news can be announced by the omission of information.
That’s what the Philadelphia 76ers did in regards to second-year guard Jared McCain.
The ‘Sixers announced their Summer League roster on Tuesday, and McCain wasn’t on it.

McCain is still recovering from a lateral meniscus tear in his left knee, and evidently he isn’t ready.
The 16th overall pick out of Duke in 2024 may have been the best rookie in his class until his season-ending injury.
In 23 games for the 76ers as a rookie, McCain averaged 15.3 points and 2.6 assists per game.

He also shot a strong 38.3% from 3-point range. If he can replicate that shooting even without the ball handling, that’s a potent combination.
The 76ers are certainly smart not to rush McCain back. They’d much rather have him healthy for the regular season and not Summer League.

It probably would’ve been a nice tune-up opportunity for him if he was healthy, given that his rookie season was cut so short.
But at this point, Philadelphia won’t rush McCain, and he’ll be back when he’s ready.
