To commemorate the players who played for the Nets over the decades wearing those 52 different jersey numbers, Nets Wire is covering the entire history of the franchise’s jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. The 10th of those 52 different numbers is jersey No. 8, which has has had a total of 14 players wear the number in the history of the team.
The first of those players wearing No. 8 did so in the New Jersey Nets era, guard alum Eddie Gill. After ending his college career at Weber State, Gill would go unselected in the 2000 NBA draft.
Instead, the Aurora, Colorado native would play the first seasons of his pro career playing in other domestic leagues until he signed with the Nets in March 2001, his first of two stints. His stay with the team would span just 8 games, ending when he signed with the Memphis Grizzlies in 2002.
After, he’d play for the Portland Trail Blazers, Indiana Pacers before returning to New Jersey in 2008 for 13 more games, over when he was cut by the team. During his time suiting up for the Nets, Gill wore only jersey No. 8 and put up 3.7 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.
