The Minnesota Timberwolves have been linked with a move for a superstar in free agency.

After losing in the Western Conference Finals to the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Minnesota Timberwolves have tried to re-sign their existing players to keep the roster intact.

However, the Timberwolves did lose Nickeil Alexander-Walker, as he signed with the Atlanta Hawks on a four-year $62 million deal.

His absence will be felt in the backcourt as he not only provided points off the bench, but he was also a brilliant defender.

However, the team is expected to make a move to fill the gap, and according to senior NBA Insider Marc Spears, they could be interested in bringing in a big-name free agent.

Among the many big moves in free agency, Damian Lillard being waived by the Milwaukee Bucks ranks up there.

He went down injured with an Achilles injury, and due to pressure mounting on them, the Bucks decided to waive Lillard’s contract to facilitate a move for Myles Turner.

The point guard is expected to be out for a considerable amount of time, but on his return, Spears has tipped the Timberwolves to be the side to add him to their roster.

Speaking on a potential move, Spears said: “Number one, the Minnesota Timberwolves. Running point next to [Anthony Edwards], imagine the shooting in that backcourt.

“Imagine the boost Minnesota would get. Imagine Mike [Conley] coming in behind him… that could be big.”

Spears also named Lillard’s former team, the Portland Trail Blazers, as one of the wildcards to make a move for him.

In his list of potential landing spots for Lillard were also contending teams like the Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets, Golden State Warriors, and Los Angeles Lakers.

Damian Lillard holds all the cards in current situation

Being a free agent means that Lillard can pretty much sign with any team once his return to the game is confirmed.

When he was seeking a move away from the Trail Blazers, Lillard wanted to be on the Miami Heat, but a deal was not reached due to complications between the two franchises.

However, the power is now in Lillard’s hands, and he can go wherever he wants, provided the team has cap space to pay for his contract.

Lillard is still a brilliant player who can score at a high level. He averaged 24.9 Points per game on a solid three-point shooting percentage of 37.6 last season, so he would be a great fit on any team.

While bringing in a player with an injury history can be difficult for teams, many would risk it for someone with the credentials of Lillard.

He is a proven scorer and can shoot the ball well; both are qualities that all teams need in order to win a championship.
