The Philadelphia 76ers made their first move of free agency when they brought in former Brooklyn Nets guard Trendon Watford on a reported 2-year $5.3 million deal. He averaged 10.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists while shooting 46.9% from the floor and 33% from deep in 44 games.
Watford is a player who uses his athleticism and handles to get to the basket and get his points, so his ability to handle the ball will be a big help to the Sixers. This current era of the NBA focuses a lot on wing depth and extra ball-handlers to make things move in the right direction so Watford helps in that regard.
With his deal now official, Watford took to Twitter to give his reaction to joining the Sixers in the free agency period.
Watford then found a Twitter video of his highlights from the 2024-25 season–a year in which he averaged a career high in points–and had a message for everybody. It sounds like he has more in store for Sixers fans in the coming season.
His fit could prove to be a bit clunky when considering he isn’t a great shooter, but he can keep defenses honest and one has to believe coach Nick Nurse will find a role for Watford. He is also a smart player who understands how to play this game so he will find his niche in Philadelphia when the time comes.
