Two days after his twin brother was traded, Cody Martin also was dealt at the NBA trade deadline.
Martin was shipped from the Charlotte Hornets along with Vasilije Micic and a 2026 second-round pick to the Phoenix Suns for Jusuf Nurkic and a 2026 first-round pick Thursday.
Martin will join his second NBA team after being drafted by and spending his first six seasons with the Hornets. This season, the 29-year-old is averaging 7.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.1 steals in 24.8 minutes per game, shooting 43.3 percent from the field, including 32.3 percent from three.
Martin has played in 245 NBA games, including 54 starts. He’s averaged 6.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.0 steals in 22.3 minutes per game. He’s a career 44 percent shooting, including 31.9 percent from three. He’s also known as a strong and versatile perimeter defender. The 6-foot-5, 205-pound wing player has been healthy this season after being limited to just 35 games the previous two years due to knee issues.
Martin will join a Suns team that needs to make a push to qualify for the Western Conference Playoffs with Phoenix in 10th place in the conference at 25-25. Charlotte is 12-36 and in the midst of its ninth straight season missing the playoffs. Martin has yet to appear in a playoff game in his career after playing for Nevada from 2017-19.
Cody’s brother, Caleb, was traded Tuesday from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Dallas Mavericks.
