Appalachian State big CJ Huntley has officially signed a two-way deal with the Phoenix Suns, the team announced Thursday, July 3.

Huntley averaged 15.7 points and 8.1 rebounds last season for the Mountaineers. Shooting 49.7% from the field, the 6-11 Huntley went 42-of-117 on 3s as he earned All-Sun Belt second team honors.

Huntley played all five of his collegiate seasons at Appalachian State, tallying 153 games to tie for the most in school history.

This is the third roster move the Suns have officially announced since the 2025 NBA Draft June 25-26 in Brooklyn.

Phoenix announced June 30 the acquisition of center Mark Williams. The Suns traded guard Vasa Micic, the 29th overall pick in the 2025 draft and a 2029 first-round pick (least favorable among Cleveland, Minnesota and Utah) to Charlotte for a 2029 second-round pick and Williams.

UConn guard Liam McNeeley wound up being the 29th overall pick in the draft. Phoenix traded his draft rights to the Hornets.

The Suns then announced Wednesday, July 2, the re-signing of guard Collin Gillespie, who was a two-way player for the Suns in his first year with the team last season.

Gillespie agreed to a one-year deal.

The Kevin Durant trade will be official July 6. The Suns traded Durant to the Houston Rockets before the 2025 draft for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the 10th overall pick in this year’s draft and five second-round selections.

Phoenix ultimately used the 10th overall selection to take Duke 7-1 freshman big Khaman Maluach. The Rockets picked Maluach and traded his draft rights to Phoenix as part of the Durant trade.
