Another Trenton native — albeit one who spent of his high school years outside of the capital city — is heading to the NBA.

The NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder selected Thomas Sorber with the No. 15 pick of the NBA Draft on Wednesday night.

“They just have a lot of trust in me,” Sorber told ESPN’s Monica McNutt on stage at Barclays Center in Brooklyn after being selected. “I appreciate this opportunity, and I’m ready to get to work.”

The 6-foot-10 center spent his freshman year at Trenton Catholic Academy in 2020 and then transferred to Archbishop Ryan High School in Philadelphia.

Sorber developed into a four-star recruit who picked Georgetown over offers from schools such as Villanova, Syracuse and Miami (Florida), according to 247Sports.

As a freshman at Georgetown this past season, Sorber averaged 14.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.5 steals and 2.0 blocks. He was named to the Big East All-Freshman Team and the All-Big East Third Team.

Sorber is the younger brother of Peter Sorber, who played at Notre Dame High, Gill St. Bernard’s and TCA in high school and then at Morgan State and Lincoln University. Their older sister, Regina Sorber, played at Alabama A&M University.

Their parents, Tenneh and Peter Sr., immigrated to the United States from Liberia.

“It’s all for you, mama,” an emotional Thomas Sorber said on ESPN while standing next to his mother.
