In two seasons with the Kentucky Wildcats, Antonio Reeves developed into an all-time great. In his final season, he was particularly stellar, posting 20.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game while shooting nearly 45% from three-point range. He was then drafted in the second round of the 2024 NBA draft and traded to the New Orleans Pelicans. Now, however, they have decided to release him, per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
In his rookie campaign, Reeves displayed a lot of the same skills that he showed with the Wildcats. He shot the ball well from deep, and showed a knack for scoring, even posting 34 points in a game once.
His numbers with the Pelicans were respectable. In 44 games, mostly off the bench, he averaged 6.9 points and 1.4 rebounds per game. He also made nearly 40% of his three-point attempts.
Reeves’ release means he will be a free agent, and his performances should mean he’ll have plenty of interest. His ability to shoot from deep will certainly attract suitors, and as he continues to get better in the other parts of his game, that will make him more attractive to NBA teams.
Good luck to Antonio Reeves wherever he winds up.
