Coming into the NBA offseason, it was clear the Boston Celtics could lose either Al Horford or Luke Kornet to free agency. Both big men were in the final year of their respective contracts and would be free to discuss terms with other front offices around the NBA.
As things turned out, Luke Kornet was the first of the two centers to jump ship. The veteran big man signed a four-year, $41 million deal to join the San Antonio Spurs. Kornet has been one of the best backup centers in recent years. He earned the pay rise San Antonio provided, even if it hurt Celtics fans to see him leave.
