The Brooklyn Nets have been making moves during the 2025 NBA offseason such as bringing in five rookies in the 2025 NBA Draft and trading for forward Michael Porter Jr. Brooklyn hasn’t wasted time getting their rookies signed to their rookie-scale contracts prior to the 2025 Las Vegas Summer League including one guy who could be one of the fastest players in the league next season.

The Nets announced on Friday that they had finally signed guard Nolan Traore to his rookie contract after having not done so despite the Draft happening last week. Traore, the 19th overall pick in the Draft, had already taken part in the team’s Draft press conference on Tuesday and was expected to play for the Nets in Las Vegas prior to officially being signed to Brooklyn’s roster.

The main reason behind the Nets taking so long to sign Traore was due to the fact that he was still under contract with Saint-Quentin, his professional team in France. As Brian Lewis of the New York Post explained over the past few days, the Nets had to buy out the rest of Traore’s contract with Saint-Quentin before he was able to officially sign with the Nets.

With all of the paperwork taken care of, Traore is officially a member of Brooklyn’s roster and he will be looking to prove that he deserves a spot within the point guard rotation on opening night. Traore, 19, is coming off a 2024-25 season with Saint-Quentin in which he averaged 11.6 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game while shooting 39.2% from the field and 30.4% from three-point land.

Traore appears to be the kind of guy that is capable of running an offense as the lead guard with his ability to set up his teammates with easy shots along with being comfortable operating in the pick-and-roll. The flaws that Traore will have to work on, similar to most of Brooklyn’s draft class, will be his shooting and his defense at the next level while playing for head coach Jordi Fernandez.
