BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The 1992-1993 California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB) men’s basketball team, led by head coach Pat Douglass, achieved a flawless season, finishing with a 33-0 record and securing the first of three national championships under Douglass’s leadership. This remarkable team is being celebrated as part of the CSUB Athletic Hall of Fame.

Key players from the team included guard Kenny Warren, who was second all-time in three-point shots made. Warren set a school record by scoring 40 points in the regional playoffs against Grand Canyon, a record that stood until last season when it was broken by Jemel Jones. Warren also set a record for making 11 three-pointers in a single game, a record that still stands. Warren was named a Division Two All-American for his performance that season.

Joining Warren as an All-American was guard Tyrone Davis, who was known for his ability to distribute the ball and his unstoppable drives to the rim. Davis was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Year and the Division Two Championship Game MVP in their 85-72 victory over Troy State.

Big man Roheen Oats was a significant presence in the paint, earning an honorable mention as an All-American. Tyrone Pollard, another sharpshooter, played a crucial role in the team’s success, including a coast-to-coast play that secured a 62-60 win over Dominguez Hills.

Erin Vines contributed as a strong defender and reliable scorer, while Jeff Kuehl provided valuable minutes and tough points in the paint. Former Foothill High School star, Reggie Phillips, known for his high-flying dunks, brought excitement to the court and was a defensive asset.

Head coach Pat Douglass, who led the team to three Division Two national titles, was named CCAA Coach of the Year four times during his tenure, finishing with a record of 257 wins and 61 losses. The team, which averaged 80 points per game and won by an average margin of 14 points, was the first undefeated champion in Division Two history.

The CSUB Hall of Fame dinner, celebrating this historic team along with other inductees, will take place on Saturday, October 25th, at 5 p.m. at the Icardo Center. For more information, visit gorunners.com.
