CAMDEN, N.J. — The Philadelphia 76ers will begin summer league on Saturday night in an effort to see what they have in their younger pieces. The Sixers will get a look at rookies VJ Edgecombe and Johni Broome as well as seeing what their second-year players have done to improve.
Adem Bona, for example, is one of those second-year players looking to take the next leap forward in the league. He had a strong rookie season, but he averaged 5.8 points and 4.2 rebounds while shooting 70.3% from the floor. He stayed around the basket using his energy and athleticism to carve out space, but Bona wants more.

After one summer league practice, Bona was working on his corner 3-point shot with Broome. Coaches were making sure he got the ball in his shooting pocket and made sure he got his looks from the corner. For the big man out of UCLA, adding that aspect to his game is a goal of his.
“As a human being, we strive to evolve and grow, you know?” said Bona. “I mean, one of my goals is to be able to evolve and spread the floor a little bit more. It takes years to develop stuff like that, so it’s a work in progress, and I’m going to continue to work on it, and eventually, we’ll be able to incorporate that into my game.”
As the Sixers get set to begin the summer league in Salt Lake City, one should expect Bona to fire up more shots from the perimeter in an effort to add to his game. Versatility is so important in today’s NBA and it would be a huge development for Philadelphia if he were to be able to morph into a legitimate threat from the corners on the offensive end.
