What would it cost Detroit Pistons to trade up in 2025 NBA Draft?
Sam Vecenie of “Game Theory Podcast” walks Bryce and Omari through the potential costs the Pistons would need to make to move up in the NBA draft.
The Detroit Pistons officially opened 2025 NBA free agency by signing Paul Reed to a two-year, $11 million contract. The second year is non-guaranteed, reuniting the Pistons with their high-energy back-up center.
Free Press sports writer Omari Sankofa II reacts to the deal with immediate analysis, and grades the move for the Pistons.
Paul Reed re-signs with Pistons grade: B
Why: “B-Ball Paul” was an effective third center for the Pistons last season by doing what he’s done his entire career — creating high levels of disruption on the floor. Reed didn’t play a lot of minutes, but you noticed him when he played. The 6-foot-9 big man tallies blocks and steals at a high rate, crashes the boards and can even knock down the odd jumper here or there.
His new salary clocks in just over the bi-annual exception, meaning the Pistons will either use cap space or a different exception to sign him. Depending on the final figure, it may just be able to just squeeze under the bi-annual exception’s two-year value of $10.5 million. Either way, the contract is a fair rate for a third center that can impact games.
