The Boston Celtics will look like a very different team next season, that has already been established.
With Jayson Tatum potentially out for the entire season, Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis, and Luke Kornet all on different teams, and Al Horford unlikely to return as well, the Celtics will resemble a shell of their former selves.

Despite this, a surprise candidate has come up a potential target for Boston, Damian Lillard.
Lillard was waived by the Bucks last week in a stunning move that made the nine-time All-Star a free agent. Now, the Celtics could swoop in on Lillard, per the Boston Globe’s Gary Washburn.
“ Lillard has some interest in the Celtics, in part because of the close friendship he’s built with star forward Jayson Tatum,” Washburn said.
Like Tatum, Lillard will also spend the majority of next season rehabbing from a torn achilles. Washburn suggests that the two could spend next season rehabbing together, then come back in 2026 at the same time as members of the Celtics.

“They could work to rehab together and try to build toward a special season when they’re both back on the court,” he said.
The pair have previously played together as part of Team USA in 2020. It’ll be stunning, but the two could see themselves gunning for a championship in Boston sooner rather than later.
