David Roddy is part of the first seven-team trade in NBA history.
The mega deal is centered around Houston acquiring star Kevin Durant from Phoenix, but the trade also includes Brooklyn, Golden State, Atlanta, the Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota. The teams announced the trade July 6.
For former Colorado State star Roddy, it means a return to Atlanta.
The Hawks acquired Roddy in the deal from Houston as he continues a recent shuffling of teams. The Hawks acquired Roddy on a two-way deal, as well as draft compensation while trading away center Clint Capela.
Roddy, a 6-foot-4 forward, played 27 games last season for Atlanta before also spending time with Philadelphia and Houston.
The 2024-25 season was Roddy’s third in the NBA and he’s spent time with five different teams.
Roddy was a first-round pick in the 2022 NBA draft. He was technically selected by Philadelphia but his rights were traded draft night to Memphis and he played the first 118 games of his career with the Grizzlies.
Over three NBA seasons, Roddy has played 168 games with 20 starts. For his career he averages 17 minutes per game, 6.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and is shooting 30% from 3-point range.
Roddy averaged 15.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, just shy of a block and an assist per game in his three-year CSU career. He helped lead the Rams to the 2022 NCAA Tournament. Roddy was the 2022 Mountain West Player of the Year.
