SALINEVILLE, Ohio — The 5th Annual Brycen Douglas 3-v-3 Basketball Tournament is set to take place this Sunday at the basketball court in Salineville.
The event honors Brycen Douglas, a 20-year-old Wellsville man who was fatally shot on the front porch of an East Liverpool home in 2021.
The tournament aims to raise awareness about the impact of gun violence.
“Our big goal is to get the kids out and involved,” event organizer Addison Copeland said. “And bring awareness to the senseless gun violence that’s going on in America not just in our area.”
A memorial table will be available for attendees to bring photos of loved ones who have also died due to violence.
“Last year, well over 100 people came,’ Donovan Franklin, a friend of Douglas, said. “If we can double that, it’s alright with me.”
The event will feature food trucks, a Chinese auction, and a DJ. All funds raised will benefit the Brycen Douglas Foundation, which provides scholarships to graduating seniors entering college or trade school.
Registration begins Sunday at 9:30 a.m., with the tournament starting at noon.
