Topping off ceremony for Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center

  • July 8, 2025

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – A topping off ceremony will be held Tuesday morning for the Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center downtown.

On Tuesday, crews will put the final steel beam in place, which will complete the riverfront building’s structural frame.

Once finished, it will become the new home for the Cleveland Cavaliers and also be the first Cleveland Clinic-backed professional facility open to the public.

It’s expected to be a massive facility, with leadership stating it will be 210,000 square feet.

“The vision and functionality of this state-of-the-art facility will be a generational game changer for the Cleveland Cavaliers. The overall investment in this project speaks to how much the franchise prioritizes the well-being of our players, while also delivering exceptional resources to enhance their skills to an elite level. We have a Championship-caliber culture, and this is another example of that commitment to our players, coaches, and support staff to continue elevating the organization into the league’s best. The community engagement with the Cleveland Clinic, coupled with the downtown location, will provide another impactful destination offering to Northeast Ohio.”

The facility was designed by Populous, a global architectural design firm.

The $3.5 billion development plan will help bridge the gap between athletes and the community, and aims to make the city a global sports science and wellness destination, according to a previous news release.

The Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center will offer comprehensive care for the general public, including athletes of all sports and levels, with access to testing and high-tech training equipment and devices, along with expert professionals from a variety of specialties, including orthopedic surgery, sports medicine, cardiology, pulmonology, exercise physiology, neurology, nutrition, psychology and genetics.

Team officials said it will also provide a platform for the Cavs Academy program, which serves more than 50,000 youth athletes across Northeast Ohio every year.

Construction is expected to take two to three years, put an opening sometime in 2027 or 2028.
