The Cavaliers will be active on the NBA’s buyout market as expected.
Javonte Green has agreed to a contract buyout with the New Orleans Pelicans and intends to sign with the Eastern Conference-leading Cavs after clearing waivers, ESPN first reported Wednesday night.

The move will give Cleveland (44-10) more depth at wing after it acquired De’Andre Hunter from the Atlanta Hawks to upgrade the position shortly before the league’s trade deadline expired Feb. 6.

What are Javonte Green’s stats?
Green has appeared in 50 games and started 18 this season, all with the Pelicans (13-42). He’s averaging 5.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 1.1 steals. He’s shooting 44.6% from the field (35.2% on 3-pointers).
In the Pelicans’ final game before the All-Star break, Green played a season-high 34 minutes and tallied nine points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field, seven rebounds, five steals, two assists and a blocked shot in a 140-133 victory over the Sacramento Kings.

Green, a 31-year-old native of Virginia, is listed as 6 feet, 5 inches and 205 pounds. This is his sixth season in the NBA. He has also played for the Boston Celtics (2019-21) and Chicago Bulls (2021-24). His career regular-season averages are 5.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, 0.7 assists and 0.8 steals. He has appeared in six playoff games, averaging 1.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, 0.3 assists and 1.5 steals.
In 2019, Green entered the league when the Celtics signed him as an undrafted free agent from Radford University who had played professionally overseas from 2015-19. In 2021, the Celtics traded him, Daniel Theis and cash to the Bulls for Luke Kornet.
