Social media users reacted to pictures of Looney’s contract signing, comparing his hairstyle to that of late singer, Rick James.
The hairstyle made famous by James is best described as long, braided, and flamboyant, often styled into beaded cornrows or tight braids. His most iconic look featured thin braids or microbraids that were sometimes adorned with beads, cascading down to his shoulders or beyond.

This hairstyle became a signature part of his polarizing image in the late 1970s and 1980s, matching his flashy stage presence.
The style from then on was deemed the Rick James hairstyle.
Looney averaged 4.5 ppg and 6.1 rebounds a game last season as he enters his first year with the Pelicans.
