Over the weekend, the Alien City Heat hosted their second 3v3 basketball tournament during the UFO Festival in downtown Roswell.

The tournament began on Saturday morning and concluded Sunday afternoon, held in the parking lot of the Foxworth-Galbraith Home Improvement Center. The parking lot had four courts in total. According to event organizer Corey King, over 100 games were held throughout the two days, with more than 100 teams and about 40 players.

The rules were in line with most 3v3 basketball tournaments. The basketball courts were half courts, and a player could score one or two points depending on where they made a shot. There is a target score for each game, with amateurs aiming for 15 and pros aiming for 21. If the target score is not met, the game will end at the 20-minute mark. If the teams are tied at the 20-minute mark, the game goes into sudden death with the team that scores the next point winning.

There were a total of seven tournaments, which were split by age, gender and whether a participant was an amateur or a professional. The tournament’s names were 40+, 13-14 Top Middle, 11/12 Boys, 15-18 Top High School, 9/10 Boys, Top Mens and 14-18 Top High School Girls.

The winners of each tournament were Out of Retirement for 40+, GTG for the 13-14 Top Middle, Basket Brawlers for the 11/12 Boys, Bricken Bad for the 15-18 Top High School, No Limit for the 9/10 Boys, Chivos for the Top Mens and Rim Rockers for the 14-18 Top High School Girls.

King said that the tournament was a resounding success. He explained that despite all the troubles he experienced setting up and planning the event, it ran smoothly with minimal difficulty. He also said that many of the participants who had only come for the basketball were also able to enjoy the UFO Festival. King concluded by thanking the community for their help, and he hopes to continue hosting this event in the future.
