Looking to get back to that six-year window when the Magic could beat any team on any given night, Orlando locked in their All-Star forward Paolo Banchero on Monday to a five-year max rookie contract extension valued at $287 million based on incentives per reports.

The signed contract helped move Banchero cards among collectors and further demonstrates Orlando’s emphasis on winning now.

For the Magic, the future is really bright with Banchero on the roster. A five-star talent out of O’Dea High School in Seattle, after a one-and-done season with Duke, Banchero was the top pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

With the highest expectations, Banchero delivered earning NBA Rookie of the Year honors in 2023 after averaging 20.0 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. The sophomore campaign upped expectations in the Orlando area watching Banchero up his points per game average to 22.6.

A 2024 All-Star, Orlando got 25.9, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game from Banchero during the 2024-25 season.

Making the playoffs from 2005-06 to 2011-12 with an NBA Finals appearance in 2009 vs. the Lakers, the team went six years without a postseason berth before first round exits in ’19 and ’20. Three more seasons without a postseason game, in back-to-back runs the Magic have got into the playoffs.

The Magic won the Southeast last season (41-41) and have high hopes for the upcoming schedule. With the roster shakeups among some of the teams at the top in the Eastern Conference, Indiana, New York, and Boston, Orlando is situated to be a difference maker throughout the 2025-26 season. Orlando has Franz Wagner locked in and made a big move for sharp shooting Desmond Bane giving up players and five first-round draft picks to get him. The Magic has gone all in on this roster.
