The Denver Nuggets got the group of death for the 2025 Emirates NBA Cup, where they’ll take on some of the league’s biggest stars and best teams in the Western Conference.
The NBA announced the league’s groups for the tournament on Wednesday, placing the Nuggets alongside the Warriors, Spurs, Rockets, and Trail Blazers in West Group C.
Denver will host Golden State and San Antonio, and travel to Houston and Portland for the event.
This year’s tournament begins Oct. 31 with the championship in Las Vegas on Dec. 16. For the Nuggets to get to Vegas, where the semi-finals will also take place, they’ll need to be one of the eight teams who advance to the Knockout Rounds. The teams with the best standing in Group Play games in each of the six groups, and one “wild card” team from each conference. The wild card will be the team from each conference with the best record in Group Play games that finished second in its group.
It’ll be quite the challenge for the Nuggets given their opponents. Denver is yet to advance past group play in the NBA Cup’s first two seasons.
This season, they’ll have to go through the Rockets, who are even with the Nuggets at +800 for second-best championship odds as of now. Houston added several veterans to a team that finished second-best in the West last year at 52 wins — and that’s before mentioning they traded for superstar forward Kevin Durant without giving up much of note.
Also in the group is the Warriors, who made it to the second round of the playoffs this spring and went 24-8 down the stretch after adding All-Star Jimmy Buttler to pair next to Steph Curry at the trade deadline.
Amen Thompson isn’t the lone young star in West Group C — the NBA’s future, Victor Wembanyama, and his Spurs will compete against the Nuggets. He barely got to play with All-Star De’Aaron Fox, who was traded for at last year’s deadline. The Spurs also had the second pick in the NBA Draft, taking the touted Dylan Harper.
Rounding out the group is the Trail Blazers — a team that not much is expected from this year, but played really good ball in the second half of last season. Don’t be surprised if they, too, are a tough foe.
Steph vs. KD.
Joker vs. Wemby.
The matchups in West Group C are gonna be SPECIAL.

The tournament in 2025 will be on Amazon Prime, as the NBA shifts TV partners this year, and this is one of the big events that was in the package for broadcasters.
