Lauderdale Lakes product Ryan Reid, who went on to play in the NBA after a four-year college career at Florida State, died Wednesday at age 38, according to multiple reports.
Luke Loucks, FSU’s new men’s basketball coach, was a teammate of Reid’s in Tallahassee from 2008-10, and posted a remembrance on X.com. Loucks wrote, in part: “His personality filled every room, his sense of humor lifted every moment, and his presence made us all better — on and off the court. I’ll forever be grateful for the battles we shared, the laughs we had, and the memories we built together.”
Ryan was more than just a great basketball player — he was a great competitor, a trusted teammate, a natural leader, a devoted husband, and a loving father. He was a mountain of a man, both in stature and in spirit — always standing tall for the people he cared about.

At FSU, Reid averaged 5.0 points and 3.9 rebounds a game, and then was drafted by the Indiana Pacers with the 57th pick in the 2010 NBA draft, immediately getting his rights dealt to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Reid played five career NBA games in Oklahoma City in 2012, topping out with four points in each of two of those contests.
He went on to play professionally in France, Puerto Rico, Japan and Canada.
