The Michigan State basketball connections to the Phoenix Suns run deep, and according to a report, it appears that they are only going to be growing that connection.
According to John Gambadoro, a longtime radio host from the state of Arizona, is reporting that former Michigan State point guard and national champion Mateen Cleaves will be joining the Suns in a player development role.

Cleaves, one of the most prolific players in MSU history, joins his former teammate Mat Ishbia, the owner of the Suns, and former college assistant coach Brian Gregory, who serves as the Suns general manager.
After his four seasons in East Lansing, Cleaves spent six seasons in the NBA for the Detroit Pistons, Sacramento Kings, Cleveland Cavilers and Seattle SuperSonics.
Cleaves and Ishbia have worked well together, with Cleaves joining United Wholesale Mortgage a Ishbia in 2019 as a leadership development coach. In 2021 he was promoted to be the leader of the leadership development team.
