Amazon Prime Video is making its own noise during NBA free agency.
Update 7/10: Amazon announced Wednesday that it has hired former TNT NBA analyst Brent Barry, the Charlotte Hornets broadcast duo of Eric Collins and Dell Curry, and sideline reporters Kristina Pink and Allie Clifton. The hirings of Barry and Curry were reported by earlier in the day by Richard Deitsch of The Athletic and Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports, respectively.
In addition to those hires, which were not publicly known until Wednesday, Amazon also confirmed the long-expected hirings of Ian Eagle, Kevin Harlan, Michael Grady, Stan Van Gundy and Cassidy Hubbarth.
Original post continues: Former TNT NBA analyst Brent Barry is joining Amazon Prime Video in the same capacity this season, according to Richard Deitsch of The Athletic, marking a return to NBA broadcasting after a seven-year absence.
Barry was well-regarded during his run on TNT from 2010-18, in which he primarily served as a game analyst and also did play-by-play on the network’s “Players Only” games. He departed for various jobs with NBA teams, most recently with the Suns.
Though he has not worked any real NBA games in seven years, Barry has remained an “analyst” on the NBA 2K series even during his time away from TV.
In addition, Prime Video is set to announce the hiring of Charlotte Hornets game analyst Dell Curry, according to Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports.
Curry, the father of Stephen and Seth, has never worked on national NBA game broadcasts. Calling his sons’ games will not be an issue, as he has not only worked their various games against the Hornets, but called full seasons of Seth’s games when he played for Charlotte the past two years.
The additions of Barry and Curry give Prime Video a pair of relatively fresh voices to join a cast that already includes first-time NBA analysts Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki and Blake Griffin.
On the play-by-play side, Prime Video officially signed Kevin Harlan to a three-year deal in May, according to Deitsch. He and Ian Eagle will serve as the network’s top voices during the regular season, though Eagle has long been expected to work a conference final.
