Marist women’s basketball will have an opportunity to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday Caribbean style.

The Red Foxes have been slated to play in the Paradise Jam, hosted by the U.S. Virgin Islands. Marist will take on Louisiana State on November 28 at 9 p.m. ET, and face either Miami of Ohio or Washington State on November 29. All Paradise Jam games will be streamed on ESPN Plus.

LSU finished 31-6 last season. The Tigers lost to Texas in the Southeastern Conference semifinals. In the NCAA tournament, No. 3 region seed LSU beat San Diego State, Florida State and North Carolina State before falling to No. 1 UCLA 72-65 in the Spokane regional final.

In head coach Erin Doughty’s second season, Marist was 16-15, posting an 11-9 mark in the Metro Atlantic. The No. 5 seeded Red Foxes bowed to No. 4 Mount Saint Mary’s, Md., 68-65, in the MAAC quarterfinals.

Marist returns four of six rising seniors, all three rising juniors and all three rising sophomores, including MAAC third-team all-star Lexie Tarul at guard and all-rookie team member Danielle Williamsen at guard. Three transfers coming in are junior Karly Fischer (Fairfield) and sophomores Kasey Bretones (Massachusetts) and Elle Bruschuk (Wright State). Justine Henry (Mary Louis Academy) is a freshman recruit. Gone from the roster are Jayne WHitman and all-star Morgan Lee (transfer to Clemson).

Marist last played LSU on Nov. 28, 2015, with the Tigers winning 72-49 in a consolation semifinal of the Gulf Coast Classic – that Red Fox team featured MAAC player of the year Tori Jarosz and fellow first-team pick Sydney Coffey.

Washington State was 21-14 last season. The Cougars beat Pacific and lost to Portland in the West Coast Conference tourney semifinals. WSU got a Women’s NIT bid, beating Utah Valley and bowing to North Dakota State in the round of 16.

Miami of Ohio was 19-12, and 11-7 in the Mid-American Conference, bowing to Kent State in the quarterfinals. The Redhawks (following a bye) lost to Duquesne 73-66 in a WNIT second-round game.

Marist last played in the Paradise Jam in Nov. 2012, losing to Purdue, Connecticut and Wake Forest.

The 2024 Paradise Jam was split into two four-team divisions (Island and Reef), with three round-robin games in each. In Island, Kansas was 3-0, Auburn 2-1, Northern Iowa 1-2 and Pittsburgh 0-3. In Reef, Florida State was 3-0, Texas Tech 2-1, Missouri State 1-2 and Gonzaga 0-3.
