The Denver Nuggets and Nikola Jokić were unable to complete a contract extension Tuesday, meaning they will have to wait until next offseason to try again.

What could have been a five-year, $270 million deal will be delayed another year, and this has Nuggets fans concerned for the future of the three-time MVP.

According to the Instagram account, Detroit Sports Daily, they provide an in-depth reason as to why Jokić could be a future Detroit Piston.

“When Darko Miličić was drafted by the Pistons in 2003, he brought two people with him: his godfather Strahinja and Strahinja’s brother Nemanja — Nikola Jokić’s older brothers,” they said on Tuesday. “Making Detroit home even after Darko left, Nemanja stayed behind and played three D1 seasons at Detroit Mercy, and partied HEAVY in the city’s local scene.

Now, with Jokić reportedly declining his extension with the Nuggets, it raises the question — could things come full circle in Detroit?”

Jokić, who is making a case to be one of the top 20 players of all time, has won one championship with Denver in 2023 and averaged a triple-double this past season.

What we know about him and his family isn’t much, but we do know how close he is with his brothers, which makes this a real possibility.

Bringing in a new head coach and trading for a player who immediately decides to go to another country, Jonas Valančiūnas, could be just enough to make him want out.

If he is not able to construct a contract that matches his value, teaming him up with Cade Cunningham in Detroit could be a great option.
