The San Antonio Spurs will boast three picks in the 2025 NBA Draft. Two will be in the lottery, likely eighth and 14th overall, and they own their own second-round pick, which will be the 38th selection.
The Spurs have a rich history of drafting talent in the second round, but for every Tre Jones, Goran Dragic, and even Manu Ginobili, there are countless players who never suited up or only recorded a handful of appearances.

With modern NIL rules making staying in college more attractive than ever, most of the second-round talent will be older NCAA players with no more eligibility left. The Spurs recently held a workout with one of the most decorated possible second-round picks in the draft.
LJ Cryer is perhaps best-known for his All-American and Final Four season with the Houston Cougars this past year, where he averaged 15.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, two assists, and shot a remarkable 42.4 percent from deep.
He spent five seasons in college, his first two with the Baylor Bears, where he won the national title in 2021. The following season, he was joined by the one-and-done Jeremy Sochan, who was picked ninth overall by the Spurs in the 2022 NBA Draft, and then he transferred to Houston for his final three years of eligibility.

Cryer is expected to be a second-round pick, in large part thanks to his small size, tunnel vision, and age (23).
However, he led the Big-12 in 3-point percentage for three straight years, and could be an excellent bench player and floor spacer in the NBA, which is exactly what the Spurs will be looking for in the second round.
It will be obvious very early if Cryer is ready to take the next step to the NBA, as there is not much room (or time) for improvement. He made the Sweet Sixteen in three of his five college seasons and is a proven winner.
With his track record, a team looking for a scoring punch in the late first round might take a swing on him, although if he’s on the board at 38th overall, the Spurs could certainly do much worse.
