Auburn basketball player Tahaad Pettiford was arrested early Saturday morning and charged with driving under the influence, ESPN reported.
The sophomore point guard, the only returner from last year’s Final Four team, was released from the Lee County Jail late Saturday morning.
Coach Bruce Pearl told ESPN he is aware of the arrest and will handle the situation internally. Pearl said the Auburn family took the arrest seriously and he expected those involved to “learn and grow from it.”
During the Spring games, Pearl told reporters that the young player showed great strength and patience to his teammates.
The 19-year-old Pettiford recently removed his name from the NBA Draft to return to Auburn. He is credited with helping his team to the Final Four during his freshman year, with an average of 11.6 points per game.
