LAS VEGAS — The NBA Finals ended nearly three weeks ago.

Clearly, nobody told this version of the Thunder.

In what marked a rematch of last month’s seven-game series, OKC ran away with a 104-85 win over the Indiana Pacers on Saturday in NBA Summer League at Cox Pavilion. And numerous Thunder players performed like it was Game 8.

Chris Youngblood gashed the Pacers’ defense for a game-high 21 points. He was one of four OKC starters who scored double-digit points.

The lone exception was Nikola Topić, who orchestrated the onslaught. He recorded 10 assists, which is his highest total in Summer League play so far.

“I think, organizationally, that’s how the Thunder wants to play,” OKC Summer League head coach Connor Johnson said of his team’s balanced attack. “We want to take the best shot for the team, no matter who it is and no matter what else is going on. … I think the balanced scoring is maybe a testament to that.”

OKC is now 2-0 in Las Vegas. Next up is a game against Orlando at 5:30 p.m. CT Tuesday.

Jazian Gortman erupted off the bench

Jazian Gortman caught what’s known as a grenade in the basketball world.

It’s a pass that comes at the end of the shot clock, leaving little time to operate before the buzzer sounds. But the willing scorer jumped on the opportunity to show what he could do midway through the first quarter.

Gortman hit his defender with a spin move and faded away for a mid-range shot that was cash. That marked his second straight bucket, following a nifty floater on the previous possession.

The most explosive thing on Saturday was Gortman’s scoring ability. He delivered 17 points on 8-for-11 shooting from the field (1 for 2 from deep) in 21 minutes off the bench, and he helped OKC snap out of an early scoring slump.

“He’s got a lot of ability in the way he can handle the ball and get in paint,” Johnson said. “It’s a good thing to have coming off the bench, especially in Summer League. Sometimes it’s just not high scoring games. You need guys who can help score, and I thought he did a good job of that.”

Gortman is a 22-year-old guard who went undrafted in 2023. He has bounced around the G League since then, and he spent last season with the Texas Legends.

Nikola Topić’s processing, passing skills were on display

Brooks Barnhizer didn’t have the ball in his hands, but he knew it would come if he got open.

That tends to happen when Topić is facilitating.

So, after slipping past his defender, Barnhizer cut to the rim late in the second quarter. Sure enough, Topic spotted him while driving along the baseline and delivered a wrap-around pass for the easy layup.

Topic displayed an incredible ability to scan the floor for his open teammates. The Serbian kept his head on a swivel and finished with 10 assists in addition to seven points and two steals.

“I just play and take what the defense gives me,” Topic said. “That was the case today. I didn’t score a lot, but I don’t really (care) about that. The defense gave me assists, so I took advantage of it.”

Chris Youngblood is cold-blooded

After scoring 19 points against Brooklyn on Thursday in what marked his first Summer League start, Youngblood ran with the first unit once again.

And he continued to display ice in his veins. The undrafted guard scored a game-high 21 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the field (5 for 8 from deep).

“He’s a really good shooter,” Topic said of Youngblood. “People can’t help as much off him, and that makes our job easier because there’s more space on the floor. It really helps to have that kind of shooter on our team.”

At this point, some team will surely give Youngblood a chance once Summer League is over. He’s averaging 20 points through two Las Vegas games on 63.6% shooting from the field and 61.5% shooting from deep.

Youngblood is on an Exhibit 10 deal with OKC. It’s is a one-year, minimum salary agreement that isn’t guaranteed, although it can be converted into a two-way contract.

OKC has one more two-way spot up for grabs. The other two have gone to Branden Carlson and rookie forward Barnhizer.

Brooks Barnhizer stole the show

Barnhizer saw what Johnny Furphy could do. Everyone in the gym did.

Indiana’s sophomore forward delivered the highlight of the game midway through the first quarter when he lost Cameron Brown with a behind-the-back move. Furphy then attacked the rim for a two-handed dunk.

But when Furphy tried to work his magic once again midway through the fourth quarter, Barnhizer wasn’t having it.

Furphy’s stepback move had no effect on the pesky perimeter defender. And when Furphy elevated for a 3-pointer, Barnhizer got a hand on the ball for a block.

Barnhizer shined on defense. He recorded six steals, bringing his Las Vegas total to 13 through just two games, in addition to his lone block.

Barnhizer also delivered his best performance yet on offense. He scored 17 points on 8-for-10 shooting from the field (1 for 2 from deep).

“I feel like if I just play hard and do right by the game, good things will happen,” Barnhizer said. “That’s just all I was trying to do.”
