Auburn basketball star Tahaad Pettiford was arrested early Saturday morning by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Pettiford, 19, was charged with Driving Under the Influence (Alcohol) and was held on a $1,000 bond. He has since made bond and has been released.
Auburn Head Coach Bruce Pearl shared a statement on the incident with ESPN, saying:
“We are aware of the situation, and we will handle it internally with Tahaad and his family. We take these matters seriously and will learn and grow from it moving forward.”
Pettiford, a rising sophomore at Auburn University, came off an impressive Freshman campaign, averaging 11.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists through 38 games in the season.
Following the season, Pettiford declared for the NBA Draft and went through the evaluation process, with many analyst projecting him in the late first round, or early second round. However, Pettiford withdrew his name from the draft, to return to Auburn for the 2025-2026 season.
It is unclear if there will be any further action taken by the University following this incident. We will continue to provide updates as they become available.
