The Philadelphia 76ers did not have the season that they expected after having a strong offseason. There were high expectations for the team after signing Paul George, and they were supposed to form a big three with him, Tyrese Maxey, and Joel Embiid. The opposite happened, as injuries cost them time on the floor together, and it dramatically affected their season.

Embiid’s knee was once again the ailment that held him back this season, as he was only able to play in 19 games. From the start of the season, the 76ers let it be known that Embiid would not play back-to-backs, but it seemed like his injury was very serious, and he couldn’t play much.

The 76ers were reportedly active during the trade deadline, and Embiid was involved in some talks, according to Ryen Russillo.

“I heard Embiid was available at the trade deadline. …But I think this happens all the time, so it shouldn’t be something that’s that big of a deal,” Russillo said on The Bill Simmons Podcast.

It’s surprising to see that Embiid was on the trade block, but anything is possible at this point after witnessing Luka Doncic being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. Embiid is a top player when he’s healthy, but it has been a while since he’s been on the court for a substantial part of a season.

At the same time, trading Embiid would maybe get the 76ers something good back in return for them.
