Three Trade Candidates Named for San Antonio Spurs originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The San Antonio Spurs have already had a productive offseason, adding backup centers Luke Kornet and Kelly Olynyk and re-signing point guard Jordan McLaughlin.

The Spurs are enjoying successful individual Summer League performances from rookies Dylan Harper and Carter Bryant, as well, and are hoping to ink De’Aaron Fox to a max contract extension, which both parties seem interested in.

The Spurs could end their summer there, and most fans would likely be happy with that, although three players have been named on the trade block as possible chips.

“They are very willing to move off of Harrison Barnes and Kedon Johnson, and I believe they are also open to moving Devin Vassell as well, so I think there’s clearly an opportunity for the Spurs to make further moves,” said NBA insider Jake Fischer.

“I do think the Spurs are going to be opportunistic and willing to move more salary for impact players in first-year head coach Mitch Johnson’s rotation in San Antonio,” he finished.

Johnson, Vassell, and Barnes are owed $63.5 million next season, so the Spurs could flip them all before the deadline for a massive contract and an elite player.

Swap out Vassell for Olynyk in a trade, and the Spurs have $49.9 million to work with, although Olynyk, like Barnes, is on an expiring deal and could offer a rebuilding team some flexibility next summer.

Stars like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Lauri Markkanen, and even LeBron James have been linked to the Spurs, although San Antonio would have to add draft picks in a trade package to add one of those players, which is not unrealistic at all.

Of course, the Spurs generally move pretty quietly, so while Fischer is hearing murmurs and rumors, nothing is set in stone quite yet.
