Not many fans of the Boston Celtics know that Dave Cowens played for another team at the end of his NBA career. The Florida State University alum actually played for the Milwaukee Bucks as well for a short time after coming out of retirement with the Celtics after already having logged a Hall of Fame career in Boston.

He also would go on to become a head coach in the sport, and the two-time champ was very much okay with telling interested people all about his tales with the Celtics in those salad days of the storied franchise. Such was the scene for Cowens at an event he spoke at known as the “Red Smith Banquet,” a tradition dating back to 1965 to celebrate local athletes in the Wisconsin sports scene.
