A beloved former NC State basketball player and respected sports broadcaster will be part of the NBA’s much-anticipated return to NBC Sports.

Terry Gannon will join NBC Sports’ NBA coverage team as a play-by-play announcer when the league’s broadcasts return to NBC for the upcoming season and debuts on Peacock this fall.

Gannon is most well-known in the Triangle for playing on the 1983 Cinderella championship team that remains part of college basketball lore and North Carolina history. Gannon was on the floor for Lorenzo Charles’ game-winning slam dunk to beat Houston as time expired. Gannon was one of the best three-point shooters in the nation that season and still holds the NC State record for career free throw percentage.

Gannon has been part of NBC Sports since 2010 and served most notably in PGA, LPGA and Olympics coverage.

“I am absolutely thrilled to return to calling hoops at the highest level and be a part of the legacy that is the NBA on NBC,” Gannon said in a release. “I cannot wait for the season to get underway.”
