The Philadelphia 76ers’ offseason has not gone as planned so far.
After a disastrous 2024-25 campaign, the Philadelphia 76ers were all set to make a few moves around their Big 3.
However, an injury to Paul George in a workout and uncertainty surrounding the return of Joel Embiid has once again left question marks about the team.
Amid all the injury news on the roster, they also have another major hurdle – bringing back Quentin Grimes.

According to recent reports Quentin Grimes’ contract extension talks with the 76ers have not gone well.
Sources revealed that the player is expecting a contract where he earns $25 million per year, but with 76ers’ Big 3 all on massive deals, it seems unlikely the franchise can offer Grimes what he wants.
He moved to the 76ers from the Dallas Mavericks and performed brilliantly in the second part of the season.
However, Tim MacMahon revealed it did not warrant a deal of $25 million a year.

Speaking about him on ‘Hoops Collective podcast,’ he said: “They wanted to give him something like Naji Marshall’s contract, which is three for $27 million. That was a big factor in the Mavericks trading him for Cody Martin, who’s on the deal in that $8 million per year range.
“Now that deal blew up in the Mavericks’ face, Cody Martin was hurt at the time. It pushed them right up against the thing where they couldn’t even sign a guy to another 10-day so on and so forth. And it looked really bad because Grimes was putting up a ton of points for Philly.
“But I’m just telling you there were Mavericks coaches who were not happy with another trade that the team made and weren’t shy to let me know about it, none of the Mavericks coaches were upset about the Grimes for Martin trade.
“They didn’t really value Grimes long-term, which is a long-winded way of saying if he’s getting something around the mid-level I think that would be a good deal for him,” MacMahon added.
Quentin Grimes will end up signing with the Philadelphia 76ers
The 76ers are currently operating $1.8 million below the tax level and have enough room to offer Grimes a mid-level contract.
Although his demands are reported to be over $25 million, the 76ers certainly cannot offer him that as it will push them over the second apron.
While Grimes’ output with the 76ers was brilliant last season, the player will certainly not find a market for a deal he wants.
Nick Nurse recently heaped praise on rookie VJ Edgecombe, and his presence would give them a boost, but Grimes’ presence would definitely add much-needed depth to the roster.
He averaged 21.9 PPG on 37.3% shooting from three-point range, but that was on a 76ers side that ended up missing the playoffs.
The 76ers will be more than happy to welcome him back on a team-friendly contract as he can add scoring with PG potentially missing a few games at the start of the season.
