On the second night of a back-to-back in the summer league, the Philadelphia 76ers took on the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night looking to continue helping the young players grow. Even though the Sixers were resting a lot of key players, they gave the Mavs a battle.

Despite not having VJ Edgecombe, Adem Bona, or Justin Edwards, the Sixers were able to walk away with a 90-82 win. Mark Armstrong hopped off the bench and put up 22 points with three steals off the bench to lead the Sixers while Johni Broome had 22 points and 13 rebounds. There will be one final summer league game for Philadelphia on Friday against the Brooklyn Nets.

Judah Mintz added 14 points and four assists, Hunter Sallis added nine points and five rebounds, and Keve Aluma had 17 points, four rebounds, and three assists.

Here are some thoughts on the summer Sixers following the win:

Johni Broome

The rookie big man continues to show off an ability to knock down 3s as he knocked down a couple of triples in the first quarter. He was aggressive on the glass in this one and was able to get things moving in the right direction for Philadelphia offensively. He was fantastic on the glass and had some good moments on the defensive end. For the second straight night, Broome delivered some big moments for the Sixers in the summer league. One can see him begin to understand the speed of which NBA basketball is played at. While summer league is not the regular season, this is a good sign for the Sixers.

Mark Armstrong

There have been some nice moments for Armstrong in the summer league. He was fantastic offensively in this one as he hopped off the bench and provided some long-range shooting and scoring as the Sixers were able to get things moving with him leading things. He passed up good shots for great ones and gave Philadelphia some leadership. His scoring ability has been something to keep an eye on in this summer league.

Hunter Sallis

The undrafted rookie had trouble getting into an offensive rhythm. He was getting good looks, but was unable to convert on his opportunities until he had an impressive baseline dunk in the third quarter for his first field goal of the night. That then seemed to get him going as he was able to contribute on the offensive end and ended up having an overall solid performance.

Izan Almansa

Getting a look as a starter, Almansa gave the Sixers some good minutes. He was active on the defensive end using his size and length to bother opponents. An issue in this one was foul trouble, but Almansa was solid on the defensive end and on the glass.

Keve Aluma

There is a lot to like about Aluma’s offensive game. He can stick an open 3 and has enough dribble moves to get himself into the paint and create some looks. He can get to the basket while also being able to convert on some open looks and can create looks for his teammates. He took over in the fourth quarter on the offensive end and led Philadelphia down the stretch.

Judah Mintz

It was an off night for Mintz. He had a tough time getting to the foul line—he only attempted onw free-throw in this one–and was not much of a factor in the paint. Normally, he gets into the paint and is able to make things happen, but had a little trouble to do so in this one. He still had some good moments on offense as he continues to establish himself.
