Duncan Robinson reacts to Detroit Pistons trade, what he sees on roster
Duncan Robinson reacts to joining the Detroit Pistons in free agency sign-and-trade from Miami Heat, Sunday, July 13, 2025 in Las Vegas.
After leading the show in Las Vegas for a week, Ron Holland sat out the Detroit Pistons’ latest game.
They prevailed anyway, dominating the Miami Heat in a 108-88 win on Thursday, July 17, to improve to 3-1 overall in Las Vegas Summer League. The No. 5 overall pick from 2024 was shut down after showing an improved all-around bag through their first three games, and his teammates stepped up as he watched from the sideline.
Bobi Klintman led the Pistons with 20 points and a pair of steals. Daniss Jenkins added 16 points and 10 assists, and Dawson Garcia tallied 12 points and five rebounds starting in place of Holland. Zakai Ziegler also had a strong performance with 15 points and four assists. The Pistons hit seven of their first 11 3-pointers and finished with 14 makes on 32 tries (43.8%) from deep.
Dawson Garcia steps upÂ
Garcia, the former Minnesota big and two-time second-team All-Big Ten pick, capitalized on his opportunity, knocking down all five of his shot attempts, including a pair of 3-pointers. He hit both 3s during the Pistons’ game-opening 27-9 run, which also was fueled by a couple of 3-pointers from Miller Kopp.Â
Garcia played with an edge as the game got chippy early in the second half, setting a hard screen on Heat forward (and former Michigan basketball star) Vladislav Goldin after players on both teams exchanged words on the previous possession. He was whistled for a technical foul, but remained effective as the Pistons closed out the blowout win by converting a tough 3-point play with 7:35 remaining in the fourth, increasing their lead to 92-70. Â
Bobi Klintman has best shooting performance yetÂ
The team’s 2024 second-round pick found an offensive groove after an inefficient performance against the Minnesota Timberwolves a game prior, shooting 7-for-11 overall and 3-for-6 from 3. He got going early, hitting a 3 from the wing and a decel layup during the hot start.Â
Klintman shot just 3-for-10 from the floor Tuesday, July 15, but led the team with 12 rebounds and dished four assists (with six turnovers). It has been an up-and-down Summer League for the second-year forward, but he looked confident stepping into a leading role with Holland watching from the sideline.Â
Daniss Jenkins continues two-way excellenceÂ
Coming off of a solid all-around season with the Motor City Cruise, the two-way guard looks as though he’s ready to take another step. He’s been the Pistons’ most consistent two-way performer in Vegas, and entered Thursday’s win averaging 17.3 points and 5.3 rebounds while shooting a blistering 57.6% overall and 53.8% from 3.Â
Though Jenkins didn’t shoot the ball as efficiently against the Heat (3-for-11 overall, 27.3%), he made up for it by going 9-for-11 at the free throw line. All three buckets were timely in the third quarter as the Heat threatened a run, including a transition layup through contact, and the ensuing free throw, to push the lead back to 21 at the 6:16 mark. He also conducted an efficient Pistons offense, producing 10 of their 27 assists, with just three turnovers.
