College basketball season isn’t here yet, but Kentucky Wildcats fans are finding a way to fill the time with La Familia and The Basketball Tournament. Play opened on Friday, and the former Wildcats dominated, beating Strohs Squad 105-52.
The Kentucky squad dominated from start to finish. They led by 15 at halftime, but blew it wide open in the third quarter, outscoring their opponents by 22 points. It was polished off by Ansley Almonor with the Elam ending game-winning shot.
Archie Goodwin, a newcomer to the team this year, led the way with 19 points. He was 8-for-11 from the field, and added seven rebounds and eight assists. Kahlil Whitney returned to Lexington triumphantly as well, scoring 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Former Northern Kentucky star Marques Warrick was fantastic in limited minutes, especially as a distrbutor. He scored seven points, and had nine assists in 18 minutes.
The returning players weren’t bad either. Aaron Harrison was 3-of-5 from three-point range and scored 14 points, while Kerem Kanter added 12 points.
La Familia will take on War Ready, the Auburn Tigers alumni team, on Sunday in round two. It will be played at 2:30 P.M. ET.
