TRUSSVILLE, Ala. (WBRC) – Trussville welcomed several basketball teams from France as part of exhibition games being hosted by the city.
Two teams from the boys basketball club of Noailles, France came to Trussville to take part in exhibition games against several Amateur Athletic Union Alabama teams. This is part of a cultural, educational and athletic exchange program.
The teams from France were U15 and U18 age teams made up of 21 players, along with their coaches, according to Head Official of Sports for Trussville Parks and Recreation, Alan Lovell. Lovell said this is their first to visit the United States.
Prior to the games held on Friday, July 18 and Saturday, July 19, Lovell said the teams from France visited the American Village and planned to tour the Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville.
“The city of Trussville Park and Rec Board has been very gracious to entertain this opportunity to have a cross-cultural international exchange, such as with Belgium and now with France,” said Lovell. “We’re hoping next year to make it a bigger tournament and include more cultures so that we can realize our world is a lot smaller than we think it is.”
Trussville Parks and Recreation said that the visitors had a connection to the Trussville area from working with a local basketball camp during the summer for the past three years.
CrossPoint Church and Grace Community Church teamed up to host the players and “show them Southern hospitality,” during their visit.
