The summer league is over for the Philadelphia 76ers after Friday’s win over the Brooklyn Nets in Las Vegas. The Sixers played eight games in total–three in Salt Lake City and five in Vegas–and their attention now turns to making sure they lock up Quentin Grimes as well as preparing for the 2025-26 season.
The Sixers were able to see what they have in their youngsters and rookie big man Johni Broome–selected with the No. 35 pick of the 2025 draft–did some good things for Philadelphia while in Salt Lake City and Las Vegas. In the seven games he played in, Broome averaged 11.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, and shot 38.9% from deep.
For Broome, here are some of the main takeaways:
3-point shooting
Broome wasn’t a great 3-point shooter while in college–he shot only 27.8% in the 2024-25 season–but his shot was falling in the summer league. It certainly looks a little funky and slow, but Broome was efficient and that is such an important aspect for the Sixers in the coming seasons. His ability to knock down an open 3 is going to be such a big help in the future. It will allow him to get some playing time and Philadelphia will want to get him some court time in some double-big lineups. That 3-point shot is going to continue developing while in the G League in 2025-26.
Offensive rebounding
Broome averaged 2.4 offensive rebounds per game in the summer league. His rebounding skills are super impressive for somebody so young and he’s only going to get better. When Sixers Wire talked with the 22-year-old, Broome explained how he is such a great rebounder and when considering he’ll have the chance to learn from Joel Embiid and Andre Drummond, one has to believe Broome will only get better. Those extra possessions he can create will help push him in the right direction moving forward.
Quick hands
Broome has quicker hands than one might think. He was terrific on the defensive end in terms of coming up with steals and turning defense into offense. He averaged 1.3 steals in the summer league and was able to help Philadelphia turn that into easy points on the other end in transition. When he is able to make things happen on that end, the Sixers can go the other way, and Broome will be able to take that and build off of it when spending time with the Delaware Blue Coats in his rookie season.
